A WhatsApp channel has been added to mariagorskikh/open-instinct. The repository's latest commit is the commit (2e5e71b) that merged PR #47 of tb-ship-it/feat/whatsapp-channel on October 30, 2026. This repository is a personal agent project that you talk to over iMessage, and whatsapp has been added to the list of conversation channels.
The actual implementation came in as a new package, packages/whatsapp. The channel handling file channel.ts is 304 lines, the incoming message parsing parse.ts is 94 lines, and the parsing test parse.test.ts is 52 lines; on the server side, whatsapp.ts (31 lines) and whatsapp.test.ts (37 lines) were added as well. In the core, whatsapp was added to the Channel type, and WhatsApp was included in the list of channels where the sender is verified as the owner, OWNER_VERIFIED_CHANNELS, as well as in the notification/approval target lists (DELIVERABLE, APPROVAL_CHANNELS, TEXT_THREADS). The prompt describes whatsapp as a short text thread like iMessage and SMS, and a line to copy the new package was added to two Dockerfiles. The commit stats are 1363 insertions and 12 deletions.
However, this channel is not the official WhatsApp API. deploy/.env.example states that the connection uses Baileys, a method that WhatsApp does not support. You must use an agent-dedicated number (the WhatsApp Business app) and must not use a personal account, and on the first run you go through the 'Link with phone number instead' procedure using the pairing code printed in the log. If that device does not open WhatsApp even once for 14 days, the connection is severed. As of this commit, no release tag, license, or star count is presented in the record.
