irekrog/skills-check-updates is a CLI tool that checks for upstream repository updates of agent skills and safely reinstalls them via the skills CLI while preserving local changes. Commit fe71d626 at 14:06 UTC on October 20, 2026 is the merge commit for PR #13, which folded the unreleased 0.3.1 changelog entry into the 0.4.0 entry. There are no code changes; only three lines were deleted from a single file, CHANGELOG.md.
The deleted 0.3.1 entry contained a security note explaining that `--upgrade` re-checks the upstream version recorded at install time, and that if the upstream version changes between the check and the install, it restores the skill's existing files and lock and skips the update. The same sentence also remains in the `### Security` entry of 0.4.0, so this commit merely cleaned up the duplicated 0.3.1 entry and its link reference. The 0.4.0 entry still contains an explanation that `--scan` runs NVIDIA's SkillSpector (static analysis, no LLM) against both the installed copy and the upstream version, showing the findings newly introduced by the update as rule, file, line, and matched text; and that in `--upgrade`, an update for which `--scan` adds HIGH or CRITICAL findings, or for which the scan fails, is not applied even with `--force`, instead ending with exit code 1 and being marked as `heldByScan` in the JSON report.
Because this commit only touched documentation, there is no evidence that the program itself changed. The link reference pointing to the 0.3.1 release tag also disappeared, leaving only 0.4.0 in the release history. The license, the maintenance cadence, and evaluation material on what problems `--scan` actually catches are not presented in this repository record. When choosing a tool for updating agent skills, one should look at how specific the audit and hold conditions remaining in the 0.4.0 entry are, and whether supporting material for those conditions appears later.
