The latest commit 23c4541 in local-deep-research is a change that fixes theme-saving failures in the web UI. If you change the theme via the header dropdown or a quick toggle and the save to the server fails, the previous theme is re-applied. Previously, even when the save failed the new theme remained on screen, and on the next page load it silently reverted to the value stored on the server, quietly resetting itself. This commit was pushed on 2026-11-03 and resolves issue #8153, and the commit message points to #8213. Including two tests, the scale is 4 files, 152 lines added and 9 lines deleted.
According to the repository description, this project is a deep research tool that runs locally. It supports both local and cloud LLMs such as llama.cpp, Ollama and Google, and states that with more than 10 search engines including arXiv and PubMed, plus the user's own documents, everything is processed locally in encrypted form. The same description also cites a figure of about 95% on SimpleQA when running Qwen3.6-27B on a 3090.
The substance of this patch is on the side of restoring the state exactly. The server-save requests were chained into a single line so that the results arrive in request order, and the theme last accepted by the server is remembered separately, so that when the save fails the state is reverted to that value. The theme cycle list consists of four themes — hashed, light, nord, dracula — and there is a counter that counts the order of theme-selection intent, so that a late-arriving save does not overwrite a later selection. If the CSRF token cannot be obtained while logged out, no request is sent at all, and in that case the theme chosen on screen simply remains.
That said, this commit is a frontend state-consistency fix that does not touch search quality or model performance. The tests explicitly specify behavior for HTTP 500 errors, network disconnects, cases where an earlier save response arrives late, and the case where the settings screen directly applies a theme and, even though the save fails, that theme is retained. The SimpleQA figure in the repository description was the maintainer's own self-reported measurement and was not re-verified by this change. The reality of this change is that theme flickering on the screen is reduced.
