gvergnaud/bise is a multi-agent harness built to manage agents on behalf of a human while the human keeps the coding flow. The November 8, 2026 commit f728cf changed how this project determines where Rust build results are accumulated. It keeps only one build artifact directory per worktree task, and passes that path as CARGO_TARGET_DIR to the agent execution environment.
CARGO_TARGET_DIR is an environment variable that points to the location where compilation and linking results accumulate. Before this change, the rust/target folder inside the task worktree simply remained as a cache. The commit consolidates these artifacts into a single place, <task dir>/target, and switchboard's sweep::task_target distinguishes task folders to compute the path. env.rs puts CARGO_TARGET_DIR into PER_CHILD_NAMES, the per-agent variable list, but excludes it from the plugin tool cache key, and separates the four temporary folder variables into TEMP_NAMES, using them only in temp_env.
Disk cleanup was handled at the same time. scripts/disk_reclaim.py classifies rust/target left behind inside task worktrees as 'stray', and if it has not been used for 30 minutes or more, it is placed on the deletion list ahead of other targets and a RECLAIMED.txt is left behind. The test script tests/gate.sh copies the prebuilt warm seed to the task folder rather than rust/target, and uses it as-is when CARGO_TARGET_DIR points to that path. scripts/tip_check.py was also changed to preserve only built targets.
The evidence is limited to this commit's message and patch. There is no public version release or performance measurement, and the 9.9 GB written in a code comment is merely an example cited as a disk cleanup target. Since the cleanup criterion depends on a threshold based on time of non-use and presupposes seed copying, the actual amount of disk savings and the loss of build time in an environment running multiple agents concurrently must be verified separately.
