bottomless/agent-duel is a locally running desktop app in which two coding agents (AI programs that write code on your behalf) face off blindly with the same prompt, and the user hides the results and picks a winner directly. The commit 4a5bf5b of November 6, 2026 is a change that fixes two things: the Electron 44 binary installation and the Windows engine build.
First, the Electron side. Because Electron 44 removed the postinstall (a script that runs automatically at install time), a separate script, scripts/ensure-electron.mjs, now downloads the binary directly every time and unpacks it into place. The extract-zip that the old postinstall used would stall midway on the latest Node such as Node 26, leaving the app bundle without frameworks and path.txt and failing with 'Electron failed to install correctly'. This time, on Windows, instead of invoking the command as 'tar', it points directly to tar.exe in the System32 path. In the Git Bash shell, Git's GNU tar comes first in PATH ahead of it, so it read the 'C:' of the zip path as a remote host address and died with 'Cannot connect to C: resolve failed'.
In the Windows engine build, the Bun version was raised from 1.3.14 to 1.4.2. During the OpenCode 2.0 porting process, arena-backend moved to Bun 1.4.2 and a version 2 bun.lock, and the macOS job and CI were already using 1.4.2. Only the Windows job was downloading the 1.3.14 baseline build, so 'bun install --frozen-lockfile' failed with 'Unknown lockfile version', and the beta.19 Windows build stalled because of that.
The change is limited to two files, .github/workflows/desktop-release.yml and scripts/ensure-electron.mjs, totaling 19 lines (12 added, 7 removed). There is nothing that changes the app's duel feature or comparison method, and the commit record contains no performance measurements or deployment results either. In other words, one can read this as a fix that restores the Windows build pipeline, but it is too early to judge what this change actually changes.
