aicodeking/leanrea is an 8 KB skill that guides agents to perform reverse engineering with existing CLI tools. It is a project intended to replace REA (Reverse Engineer Anything), and no version information was published this time. Rather than providing new tools, it gives, per target, quick commands, ready-to-run investigation commands, and cautions for the work. It is written in Python and uses the MIT license.
The core of it is not adding an MCP server or tool definitions, but letting the agent directly use the tools it can already call. The description cites asar, otool, nm, jadx, Ghidra and others as examples. The project materials state that they removed the 207 tool definitions and 48.8 KB reference document of the previous setup and packed the necessary guidance into a single skill file. The README presents a 38% speed improvement and 35% cost reduction compared with REA. It is an attempt to connect reverse engineering work through short instructions instead of a complex tool layer.
The performance figures are said to be reproducible with the published original JSONL, but the comparison is limited to 3 repetitions, one model, and one machine. It is therefore hard to read the stated speed and cost differences as meaning the same results would come out with other models or in other environments. The center of the project lies less in new reverse engineering technology than in shrinking the guidance that points to existing tools.
