helixml/helix is a project that assigns each agent its own GPU-accelerated desktop and runs models like Claude, Codex, and Gemini on its own stack. PR #3499, merged on November 2, 2026, changed the screen size of this desktop to be based on the actual display of a Mac laptop. The commit message states that the desktop was changed to follow the width and zoom of the laptop screen, and that the resolution is set using 16:9 as the reference.
The implementation starts on the server configuration side. Three environment variables, HELIX_NATIVE_DISPLAY_WIDTH, HELIX_NATIVE_DISPLAY_HEIGHT, and HELIX_NATIVE_DISPLAY_ZOOM, were added in api/pkg/config/config.go, and the newly added display.go and display_darwin.go under for-mac read the Mac's primary display to fill in these values. The server exports a NativeDisplay type holding only width, height, and zoom level as native_display in the getConfig response, and the schema was widened so that the resolution value of the sandbox display accepts 'native' in addition to '1080p', '4k', and '5k'. The meaning of zoom_level when it is 0 also changed from a fixed value (1080p is 100, 4k/5k are 200) to a 'preset default'.
However, the scope is limited to the screen size default alone. The values are populated only when the host reports a display, so on environments other than Mac, native_display is empty and the UI falls back to the existing default of 1080p. The record contains no performance figures or benchmarks, and the patch bodies for api/pkg/types/simple_spec_task.go and types.go are missing, so the details of those changes cannot be confirmed. For environments that open an agent desktop on a macOS laptop, this is a noticeable fix, but there is no basis for reading it as a change in processing performance or output quality. This reflects the state as of that commit, and no release version is given.
