christos-antono/npctalk is a Python project that helps AI coding agents implement spoken conversations with in-game NPCs. It provides the agent skills, a self-hosted voice server, and the npctalk CLI needed to recognize what the player says, have the NPC answer in a voice that fits the character, and act according to the conversation. No new version or release changes were given. The repository includes a GTA V mod case study, and also guides what features and implementation methods are required to apply it to other games.
Rather than the voice conversation feature itself, this project packages a way to connect several tools and apply them to a game. Voice synthesis is handled by Fish Audio, speech recognition by fal, dialogue generation by Cerebras, and NPC behavior by TypeSafe. The repository's code is close to integration code that links these services together plus agent skill documentation. It centers on a case study and guidance you can start per-game implementation from; it does not mean a finished, general-purpose mod that works across various games. The documentation includes a voice similarity measurement table comparing against ElevenLabs and others, and also records the initial measurement values that broke on the second run.
However, the documentation states that reproducing it requires a GPU server and four kinds of paid API keys, so running cost has to be taken into account. It is a setup that relies on external services for voice synthesis and recognition, dialogue generation, and behavior processing. Therefore, this repository is closer to an integration method through agent tools and the GTA V case study than to a deep implementation covering its own voice models or games in general.
