PhotoCraft v0.11.1 was released on October 20, 2026, as the GitHub release tag v0.11.1, and storytold/photocraft is an open-source photo editor written from scratch in Rust. What this version changes is the behavior when dragging a value in the property panel. The property panel is the area where numeric values of the item being edited are adjusted, and the release summary says that switching the handling so that dragging a value there only repaints the screen made this interaction 4.2x faster.

The editor has 69966 stars on GitHub. Separate from the performance work, it fixed loading image files on Linux so that files are no longer handed off to another program, and it tidied up stack mode (a mode that handles multiple images as one group) so that statistics summarizing the brightness distribution, such as kurtosis and asymmetry, produce the same results regardless of the operating system. The release summary lists three changes: the property panel performance improvement, the Linux file opening fix, and the stack mode statistics cleanup, and all three are refinements of existing behavior.

That said, the 4.2x figure comes from the single interaction of dragging a property panel value and does not indicate overall editing speed. The environment in which that figure was measured is not in the release information, so it would be premature to assert that other computers will show the same ratio. The Linux file handling method and the consistency of stack mode statistics are fixes that narrow the problem down. There is also no statement that new features were added, and neither the feature scope nor the license of this editor appears in the release information. Until both are confirmed, it is premature to judge what work it can be used for.
