kubeflow/trainer is a component that declaratively manages distributed AI model training and large language model (LLM) fine-tuning in Kubernetes clusters. This repository was created on June 28, 2017, and the latest publicly released version is v2.3.0.

The scope of support laid out in the README is the core of this repository. You can use PyTorch, MLX, HuggingFace, DeepSpeed, Megatron-LM, JAX, and XGBoost as they are to compose large language model fine-tuning and AI model training, and it coordinates multi-node, multi-GPU jobs on HPC (high-performance computing) clusters via MPI (message passing interface). Scheduling integrates with Kueue, Slurm Bridge, and KAI Scheduler, and it also provides a distributed data cache that transfers large-scale data to GPU nodes with zero-copy. Model development and fine-tuning are handled by the TrainJob and Runtimes APIs of the Kubeflow Python SDK. The implementation language is Go, the license is Apache-2.0, and the star count is 2249.

However, the release notes summarizing the changes in v2.3.0 are not available in this source, and no performance measurements are presented either. It is hard to confirm what this release improved based only on the given material. All that can be read out now is the scope of support and the structure. The grounds for judgment are deferred until the original release notes are available.
