RAG engines whose primary distinction is autonomous multi-step evidence gathering and grounded answer synthesis through query planning, reformulation, or traversal. This specialization takes precedence over document-rag-platforms. Excludes ordinary search exposed as an agent tool, next-turn context selectors, crawlers, and general agent frameworks.
