opensec-git/pi-bolt bolt-v0.8.7 is an independent fork that compiles the coding agent Pi Ahead-of-Time into native code and ships it as a single executable. It is written in TypeScript and uses the MIT license. It runs without Node or Bun, and fully supports the original Pi's commands, sessions, settings, providers, and extension features. It targets Linux x86-64, macOS Apple silicon, and Windows x64.

This approach focuses on reducing the preparation time and resource usage needed to run the agent. The README compares Pi-Bolt 0.8.5 with Pi 1.1.0 on AMD EPYC 7B13 Linux. In the order Bolt/Bun/Node, preparation time is 38/116/296ms, CPU time per session is 193/746/1093ms, and memory after a long session is 134/253/536MB. The repository contains more than 20 scripts for reproducing the benchmark.

However, these figures are results the project reports from its own environment, and no external verification data is provided. The default build has no JIT, so plugins run in interpreted mode. The project recommends a JIT build for heavy plugins, and even then explains that the Pi core itself remains compiled and within about 5% of the default build. It also provides a baseline build for CPUs without AVX2, SHA256SUMS verification, and release signature verification procedures. The presented performance differences are therefore worth noting, but it is difficult to claim they hold in other environments.
