DigUp from arahim3/digup is a tool that searches by the contents of files on your computer — photos, PDFs, documents, recordings, videos, code. It is designed to search stored files on the device itself. v0.7.0-beta.1 is the beta release in which the previously Mac-only app expands to Windows and Linux for the first time. So the heart of this change is not a change in how search works, but an expansion of supported operating systems and distribution channels.

For Windows it ships an installer executable, and for Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12, and Mint 21 or later it ships .deb packages for amd64. Other distributions get an AppImage. All packages target 64-bit Intel and AMD machines only, so ARM-based machines are not covered by this release. On first run it downloads an 865MB model. DigUp is built on Google DeepMind's EmbeddingsGemma 2 and performs the processing that finds file contents on the device. This release became public on 2026-10-14.

There are clear gaps in what is supported. It cannot read text captured in screenshots, and it skips older Word .doc documents, RAW photo originals, and SVG images. The Mac version is not part of this release and remains at 0.6.1. So rather than search that spans every kind of file, it is more accurate to see this beta as an expanded edition used within the explicitly stated operating systems and file formats. You need to check first whether the files you care about fall into the excluded categories.
